Ok, so I started writing the following a few days ago. And fell asleep. So bear with me.
I went to my first Pilates session on Thursday. It is now Sunday, and my abs still hurt when I sneeze. After an hour and a half I was still not all the way through my program but now harbour suspiscions that my physio/pilates guru David is a bit of a bastard. Yes, as I began to get to know my first of the pilates Death-Defying machines - 'The Reformer' - I found myself in many strange positions with many an aching muscles. Turns out, I am a bit 'floppy'.
I think my favourite exercise was when I got to stand on top of The Rerformer. And do splits along the slidy thing. It was a bit scary but it did not hurt too much. Unlike the Horrific Ab Crunches of Doom. Of which I had to do twenty repettitions. TWENTY!! Hence, my difficulties sneezing. I also had sore arm pits the following day, and I am sure that was also a side effect of the HACDs.
You know, it is a damn good thing that I know my body is capable of remarkable change, otherwise I am not sure how I would rate my commitment level. It costs a lot of money to use these strange devices. And there was this one called 'The Trapeze', which I will learn some exercises on next week. I saw people strung up near the ceiling on this baby!
Apparently, this portion of my Pilates training is about increasing my awareness of my body. And I must say that prior to Pilates I had no idea I was engaging my abdominals when I rode the clutch in my car. The things we learn!
